The Library is upgrading to a new online catalog and checkout system (CARL) and will need to be closed to the public for an extended period of time to complete the installation (Friday, May 25th through Monday, May 28th). Over 40 libraries in metro Detroit will be affected by this technology change-over. The closure allows for millions of records (both patron and material) to be transferred successfully. This data transfer is being done by consultants working with the library's consortium (The Library Network). The new system will bring patron and material access upgrades that will be beneficial to our Novi residents when searching and borrowing materials. Thank you for your cooperation as we get ready for our new system. We apologize for this interruption in service, but expect it to be a great improvement to our library and for YOU!
CATALOG & SYSTEM DOWNTIME
During the closure beginning Friday, May 25th at 6pm through Monday, May 28th, our current online catalog will be unavailable and you will not be able to access your account, renew materials, pay fines, or search the catalog for materials. Downloadable content will still be accessible.
RETURN ITEMS AFTER MAY 29TH
**Manual and Automatic Book Drops Unavailable May 25th – May 28th.**
No materials will be due and no fines will accrue during the closure.
All materials may be returned starting Tuesday, May 29th.
During our closure May 25th through May 28th, both our manual and automatic book drops will be unavailable. No materials will be due and no fines will accrue during the closure. All materials may be returned starting Tuesday, May 29th. Thank you for helping us make this transition easier!
Also in preparation for the migration to a new system, MeLCat services will be suspended on April 1, 2018 with a tentative resume date of July 1, 2018. MeLCat requests will not be allowed during this period, but any previously checked out MeLCat items can still be returned to NPL. Any MeLCat items checked out prior to April 1st will only be allowed one checkout period of 3 weeks. In order to ensure prompt return of materials during the suspension, no renewals will be allowed. We apologize for the inconvenience!

HOW YOU CAN GET READY FOR CARL
One requirement when we upgrade to the new system is that patron PIN numbers must be numeric and 4-6 numbers in length. Patrons who have included letters in their PIN or have a PIN longer than six numbers should change their PINs now before May 25th.
Reminders will appear on the “My Account” page of the Enterprise catalog and an email reminder will be sent to patrons who need to change their PIN before the upgrade. Any PINs that include letters or exceed six characters will be changed to the last four digits of the patron's phone number during the upgrade.
Will my current library card work with the new system?
Yes. Your current library card and account will carry over to the new system automatically. You do not need to get a new library card.
What happens to my pending holds?
All of your holds will carry over to the new system. Your place in the holds queue will remain the same.
Will I be able to renew my books online during the closure?
No. The online catalog and access to all accounts will be shut down when we are closed. No items will be due May 25 – 28 and no fines will accrue for item on those days.
Should I return my items during the closure?
No. Both our manual and automatic book drops will be unavailable. No materials will be due and no fines will accrue during the closure. All materials may be returned starting Tuesday, May 29th.
Will other local libraries be closed during this time?
Yes. Other Library Network (TLN) shared system libraries will also be upgrading to this new system and will be closed May 26-28.
