TEEN SPACE

The Novi Public Library has partnered with the City of Novi Parks & Recreation Department, Novi Community School District, and Novi Youth Assistance to offer a Teen Space in the West Side Meeting Room of the Library on Mondays- Fridays 2-5 pm (except over vacation breaks) during the school year. The Teen Space was created for students to “hang out” and socialize when traditional use of the library is not needed, and is open to students in grades 7-12.

TEEN ADVISORY BOARD

Join the TAB as we create and plan programs for teens at the Library. Meeting attendance will count as volunteer time.  Click here for more information on the Teen Advisory Board.

College Application Essay Workshop:  Writing an Essay that Stands Out

Join writing coaches Rosemarie Brennan and Ashley Bennett for a two-part workshop that will guide you through the process of crafting a compelling college application essay. You will analyze successful essays, brainstorm topics, write a draft, and receive individual feedback to help strengthen it. The best part? When the application deadline is stalking your procrastinating classmates, you'll already have an essay that will dazzle admissions officers.

Note: Parents are welcome to join their teen at this program.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! Visit the library between September 1st and 30th to sign-up for a library card to obtain access to our diverse collection. We’re offering extra incentives during the month for grades K-12. Each time your library card is used during September you have the chance to enter a raffle for a gift card. SAT Practice Test

Sylvan Learning Center will be hosting a free SAT diagnostic test. These practice tests are designed to allow students to recreate test-day conditions, understand what subject areas they need to focus on during their continued test preparation and get ready for the day when their scores really count. Students must bring a calculator and are encouraged to bring a water bottle and snack.

Join Chef George Rapitis, a Continuing Education and Professional Development Instructor for Culinary Arts at Schoolcraft College, for a fun and hands-on cake decorating demonstration to celebrate National Bake and Decorate Month. Participants will learn various decorating techniques including piping a flower, creating a rose, heart and various borders.

How to Navigate the College-Going Process: Financial Aid Overview

Michigan Department of Treasury’s MI Student Aid is Michigan’s go-to financial aid resource. Whether its scholarships or grants, they work to make college accessible, achievable & affordable. MI Student Aid’s Outreach Team will present an overview of state financial aid resources in which attendees will learn about state financial aid programs; discuss leveraging state aid with other forms of financial aid, such as institutional and federal aid to achieve maximum college affordability; analyze financial aid as it appears in a financial aid award letter to craft college financing strategies; identify resources to assist eligible students in accessing financial aid; and learn specific scholarship search methods.
