Homebound Delivery

Our Outreach staff delivers books, magazines, and audiobooks to Novi residents who are not able to travel to the library.

In order to qualify for homebound delivery, the patron must be a resident of Novi and be physically unable to travel to the library. If you or someone you know would like to sign up for this service, please call the Reference Desk of the Novi Public Library at (248) 349-0720.

Adaptive Technology

Adaptive technology includes any tools or equipment that assist disabled patrons in accessing information and communication resources. The following adaptive technologies are available at the Novi Public Library:

Adaptive Technology Computer

The Adaptive Technology Computer was funded by the Oakland County Community Development Block Grant awarded to us by the city of Novi with assistance from the Novi Lions Club & the non-profit, eBlind. The new software includes JAWS for Windows making the Internet and other computer programs accessible to visually impaired persons. We also have Zoomtext for magnifying the computer's screen and Openbook software for scanning and reading text to those visually impaired.

The 20' screen also helps the visually impaired individual. In addition, the keyboard has keys with large print & braille stickers on them; & for those with limited hand mobility there is a special mouse. The computer sits on a height adjustable table to accommodate wheelchairs. This computer is available for use by any handicapped patron. If you are interested in using this computer please call (248) 349-0720, and ask for Outreach Librarians.

Magnifiers

Novi Public Library owns a large collection of magnifiers in different levels of magnification, styles, etc. These magnifiers are available for check-out so patrons may "test drive" the different magnifiers before making an expensive purchase for themselves.

Optelec

The Optelec viewer is a very powerful closed-circuit television magnifying reading system. Availble only in the library.

TDD Machine Telecommunications

Device for the Deaf is available for incoming calls only. Please leave a message for us when we are not available at 248-349-3853.

Wheelchair

A wheelchair is available in the library for those in need.  Please ask at the information desk.
