What is the Adult Battle of the Books?

The Novi Public Library will hold its first Adult Battle of the Books program on September 27, 2019. This fun program is designed to encourage reading and recognize those who like to read.
 

Who may participate?

Anyone who is 18+ years of age is eligible to participate in the Adult Battle of the Books program by organizing their own teams of 3-6 adults, including a coach.
 

What does the coach do?

Coaches keep their teams motivated and make sure members are reading their books. Coaches will participate in the Adult Battle of the Books program along with their teams. Coaches will communicate directly with Novi Public Library staff and be responsible for sharing information with their teams.

What happens during the Adult Battle of the Books program?

Adults read from a selected list of 4 books and then participate in a contest where each team answers questions about those books. Prizes are awarded to the first place team. Prizes are also awarded for best team name and best team costume. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.

How do we enter the Adult Battle of the Books?

Complete the online application form.
 
The first 10 teams to complete their entry form will be eligible to participate in the Battle. All registration forms must be typed and submitted via email.

Adult Battle of the Books Titles

The 2019 Adult Battle of the Books titles are:
 
  • The Martian by Andy Weir (science fiction)
  • Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi (historical fiction)
  • 7 ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton (mystery)
  • The Lost City of the Monkey God by Douglas Preston (non-fiction)
Copies of the books are available at the Novi Public Library for check out with a library card.

Online registration begins July 10, 2019 at 10am until filled
Adult Battle of the Books program held on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 6:30-8:30pm
