1000 Books Before Kindergarten
The Novi Public Library and the Novi Community School District are partnering in a year round preschool reading initiative, supporting parents and caregivers in the goal of reading 1,000 books with their children before they enter kindergarten. It is never too early (or late) to begin developing enjoyable reading experiences with children and contribute toward their readiness to learn to read when they enter school.
Did you say 1,000 books?
Reading 1 book a day will meet the goal in under 3 years. Reading 3 books a day will meet the goal in under 1 year!
The log contains a list of 100 suggested titles, but you can read any books that capture your child’s interest. Log books read by librarians at story time. Read books in your native language. Read favorite books again and again! Every book counts!
How can my family begin Raising a Reader in Novi?
To begin the program, pick-up a log from the first floor information desk, register online, or print the log. Once you have read 100 books with your child, return the log to the library for a prize and a new log. When your child reaches the goal of reading 1,000 books (10 logs total), your child will earn their name in a Novi Library book of their choice and your family will be invited to a special celebration! A party will be planned for each October to celebrate the children who have completed in that year!
For more information, stop by the first floor information desk or call the library at 248-349-0720.
