We are pleased to announce that NPL was the recipient of the 2026 Read Japan Project! We have 125 books about Japan that have been written by authoritative experts that have been evaluated by an International Panel. The books will be on display for the entire month of June. Some will be on top of the Adult International Collection and in the book display on the 2nd Floor and others will be a part of the Libraries are for Everyone display on the 1st Floor.
NPL is only the 2nd public library in Michigan to be awarded this honor. A huge thank you to Deputy Consul General Yamane for attending the unveiling ceremony and the Consul General's Office for nominating NPL!

The Read Japan Project is an international initiative dedicated to promoting a deeper understanding of Japan through books. The project is administered by the Tokyo Foundation with financial support from The Nippon Foundation. Together, these organizations work to foster global understanding by providing readers with access to high-quality materials about Japan’s history, culture, society, politics, literature, language, manga, business, and the arts.
