Your Library. Your Stories

If you have a library story to tell, please contact our Communications Manager by emailing administration@novilibrary.org or calling 248-869-7204.

Gordian, a resident of Northville but an avid Novi Public Library user, recently received his Doctorate in Business Administration and Global Business & Leadership from California Intercontinental University, Irvine, California. Coming to the U.S. from Nigeria nearly 40 years ago, Gordian received his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Central Michigan University and his Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from Wayne State University.

GordianMarried with two young sons, Gordian decided to get his Doctorate degree. However, having a full-time job and a young family proved difficult. After his sons grew up and he was settled in a new job, he knew he could now devote more time to his studies and decided to accomplish his Doctorate.

While working full-time as a Senior Client Relationship Manager at an IT firm, Gordian spent many of his evenings at NPL, using the 2nd floor to aid in his Doctoral research. Gordian said NPL provided him with a calm environment in which deep study and research could be done. He expressed his appreciation for the help provided by our friendly, knowledgeable, and patient librarians. They were able to direct him to EBSCO and other library databases to find scholarly journals, eBooks, periodicals, etc., all of which were necessary to write papers and achieve his degree. The Library’s evening hours and the ability to get books and materials from other libraries were also a huge help.

Gordian provided some advice for others who might be in school working toward a degree. He highly recommends NPL for the attributes listed above. He also said that NPL’s librarians all have a great, friendly attitude, where he felt welcome to come and do his studies. For students unsure of where to start, Gordian said NPL’s librarians could help point newcomers in the right direction to databases that will be useful to them.

Looking toward the future, Gordian is excited to begin building his portfolio, using all three of his degrees, as well as his passion for alleviating poverty, to help those in need. He would love to work with the United Nations or the World Bank Group to use his knowledge and expertise to enact positive change in the world.

A huge thank you to Gordian for sharing his amazing story with NPL! Additionally, congratulations on a job well done!
