Age Requirements

Teen volunteers must be between 14-17 years of age. Sorry, we cannot accept volunteers younger than 14 years of age. 

18+ years of age should apply to be an adult volunteer. Information about the adult volunteer program can be found here.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of things will I do?
Teen volunteers perform a variety of tasks, including assisting library staff in programs and special projects.

How much time do I need to volunteer?
Shifts are based on library needs and vary monthly. You sign up to volunteer based on your own schedule and availability. The length of each shift varies, but typical shifts are one hour long.

Will I be trained?
You must attend a teen volunteer program orientation prior to volunteering. 
Training is provided to familiarize you with any job you are asked to complete. 

Do I need to live in Novi?
We accept teen volunteers residing in Novi and other local surrounding cities.

Application Dates

The application process takes place twice a year:

  • Spring: Accepting applications March 1 - May 1
  • Fall: Accepting applications September 1 - November 1

Applications will only be processed during the appropriate application dates. Sorry, we will not process applications outside of the dates listed above.

Application Process

All teen volunteers must complete a background check and work permit and have it approved prior to volunteering at the Novi Public Library.

All sections of the work permit must be completed.

Completed background check and work permit forms must be emailed directly to teenvolunteer@novilibrary.org. Sorry, we cannot accept printed paper applications. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
